Abdul Waris Umaru, known professional as Comedian Waris, is a Ghanaian comedian who has risen through the ranks and is now regarded as one of the best comedians from Ghana. He has performed on every major comedy platform in the country and he is now working very hard to conquer the international stages.
Comedian Waris was born on July 31, 1992 in a small village named Abuabu in Ashanti Region,
Ghana. He is the first son of two boys. Waris wasn’t born with a silver-spoon in his mouth as he grew up in a not so wealthy family and neighborhood. At age 9, his father passed away which was a heavy blow to the family, this made his mother assume both the father and mother responsibilities in his upbringing.
Comedian Waris started his basic education in Kumasi but later relocated to Accra to complete his primary and Junior High School (J.H.S) Education at Kaneshie Kingsway with one of the cluster of schools located at that area. He furthered to have his Secondary Education at Odorgonno Senior High School where he studied Agricultural Science. In 2015, Waris attened Top Media Group where he studied to be a Radio/TV engineer and a presenter. After a year with the media school, he has had the opportunity to work with many of the top media houses in the nation; Rainbow Radio, Top FM, Coastal FM in Mankessim, Marcus FM and Channel 5
TV.
His comedy journey started soon after. Even though he used to be the funny guy amongst his peers back in high school, Waris became a professional in the year 2016. After getting auditioned by DKB; The King of GH Comedy, Waris had his stand up professional debut at the comedy club, Comedy Express; a show organized by DKB. His hard work and determination pushed him on to better his craft and soon after he was sharing the stage with some of the industry greats. Comedian Waris has performed on many comedy platforms such as Laughline Comedy Show, Laugh Kitchen Comedy Show, Music Magic and Comedy which was
live on ETV GH, April Fools Comedy Show, Madagascar Fifa Competition, Winneba University
Comedy Night, Pentecost University Hall week Comedy and West Hill Mall. He also got the
opportunity to perform on several outstanding platforms such as Glo Lafta Fest, Funnybone
Untamed Nigeria and the Easter Comedy Show. Comedian Waris, he is the best content
creator and creative director in the comedy industry.
His impressive talent has seen the young comedian been granted interviews by some of the nation’s finest media personalities such as Nii Kpakpo Thompson, Nana Gyampo of Asempa and KMJ To name a few.
Stand-Up Comedy is not an easy work, but with God`s grace, determination and the passion he has, there is no stopping him from achieving the ultimate. As a standup comic, he has made it clear through his outstanding art that comedy is the last true form of free speech.
