One of Highlife Greats, Rex Omar has responded to those contending and wondering why a Dancehall artiste like Shatta Wale won Highlife song of the Year with his banging tune, ‘My Level.’

He explained that the song is purely Highlife and suggested those who lack basic understanding of music will think otherwise.

His comment also follows on the heels of what a prominent musicologist of British origin, Professor John Collins said on Joy News.

The respected professor had stated that ‘My Level’ song is not Highlife but Afro-Dancehall and wondered why it appeared in the Highlife category at VGMAs.

Responding to the matter on WhatsApp platform for Highlife musicians, the ‘Abiba’ artiste wrote: “What is Prof saying? What is Dancehall about MY LEVEL? There’s no iota of Dancehall in it, he’s just trying not to be seen offending anyone.”

“90% of that song MY LEVEL is Highlife. Why? Or was he expecting it to sound like the 1920’s?” he quipped.
