We have chanced upon a report where parents in Mthatha have taken it upon themselves to build classrooms for their children.

The post was shared by a Twitter user with the handle, @ghettostyler and the tweet reads;

“MTHATHA PARENTS BUILD CLASSROOMS FOR CHILDREN

PARENTS from Jumba Senior Secondary School in Mthatha have taken a decision to build two classrooms, to assist their children with their learning, while they wait for the Eastern Cape Department of Education to assist them.

The school governing body (SGB) treasurer, Nobomi Sifundo, confirmed that they were using donations from the parents to build these classrooms. This school is one of the schools that were damaged by a tornado last year.

The school had 13 classrooms, but the natural disaster destroyed all but two of them. One of the parents who spoke said;

‘After we heard that the department would not be able to assist us now, we decided to stand up and do something for the sake of our children.

Most of our classrooms were affected, so we had a shortage of classrooms. For now, I am not sure which grades would use those classes but it would (improve the situation).’ “
