In the days gone by, musicians’ source of money is via the sales of audio cassettes. The trend has changed drastically in the modern era. People don’t patronise cassettes anymore. In fact the digital age has relegated cassettes to oblivion. And even the substitute for cassettes, compact discs have also been shunned. How do musicians survive? The answer is simple- through public performances.

Mzbel granted an interview to Class FM where she revealed how much she charges per show. “The smallest I will take to perform on stage is between GHS15 and GHS20,000, so it’s not a lot of money because you perform with a whole band and everybody has to get paid, rehearsals and so on and some of the shows I even do it for free,” she stated.

She however she opined that she can perform freely at a show on the condition the organizers would provide their own band. “If you have to do it for free, then whoever you are doing it for has to provide the band so you just go and rehearse with the band and you go and play,” the controversial artiste disclosed.

Mzbel said she makes a lot of money in one appearance as a musician, which in her view is more rewarding than “stressful” salaried work.

In fact if you actually know how much Shatta Wale, Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, and most of the A-list musicians (as it were) charge per show, you will think you are in the wrong profession.
