Ghana and Nigeria have been battling for supremacy in the area of music, sports and movies, subtly tho! But in reality Ghanaians have played second fiddle to their neighbours in the field of movies and music.
As a matter of fact, Nigerian actors/actresses are known worldwide, something only a handful of their Ghanaian counterparts can boast of.
This is not to say Ghanaians are not doing their best but it seems there is a long way to achieve this as the structures and requisites needed to enhance our creative industry are not in existence.
One Danish Afrobeat singer Toby Tabu made some suggestions which will help in our industry. He said in his homeland, Nigerian music has taken over the airwaves and other events.
According to him, although music from Stonebwoy and Sarkodie are played in Denmark, Nigerian music is widely popular in the European country.
In an exclusive interview with Class FM, Tabu said “It has become natural for Nigerian artistes to make it in Europe. A lot of the Afrobeat hits in Denmark are from Nigerian artistes. Although Stonebwoy and Sarkodie are there, Wizkid and other Nigerian artistes are more popular there.
“Ghana needs labels, Ghana needs more structures in the music industry, you need more boosting in music, but we are getting there, I feel the movement happening in Ghana now is the right way.”
According to the Danish musician, Stonebwoy is his favourite Ghanaian artiste, describing him as a “king” for his exploits.
“Stonebwoy inspires me, he is a king in this industry. Stonebwoy, for me, is like one of the major guys. When he’s on stage it’s crazy, the way he controls the crowd is good,” he said.
Toby Tabu is out with two new Afrobeat songs titled Nana Yaa and Ghana Lady.
