Ghana’s most prolific player of all time and current captain of the Black Stars, Asamoah Gyan ruffled few feathers when he announced his retirement from the national team just few weeks to the commencement of the AFCON tournament to be hosted by Egypt.

Asamoah Gyan cited disrespect being shown to him by the coach as he plans to replace him as the captain of the team with Dede Ayew and limit his role, something he said contradicts with what he stands for.

To this end, the President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has invited the technical team of the Black Stars, the Management Committee, and the Normalization Committee of the Ghana Football Association as well as the Asamoah Gyan camp to a meeting at the Jubilee House this afternoon.

It is believed the president wants to intervene so the impasse doesn’t derail the country’s quest for a first AFCON title in 37 years.
