Timothy Wuni, National Identification Authority data input officer has been arrested by the Kaneshie Police for allegedly registering two Nigerians in the ongoing National Identification Registration exercise at Aabossey Okai in Accra.
26-year-old Timothy Awuni who was working at the Abossey Okai Central Mosque registration centre in Accra was caught in the act by his supervisors registering the two Nigerians unto the system.

According to the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Accra Regional Police Command, Deputy Superintendent of Police Mrs. Effia Tenge, the supervisors quickly called the police who arrested Mr. Awuni.
The two Nigerians, Alhassan Abdul Samed, and Abubakar Ruali fled the scene when the supervisors caught them in the act.

Upon interrogation at the police station, Timothy Awuni confessed to the crimes and revealed a former worker at NIA asked him to do it.
Awuni explained that he was paid GH¢60 to register the Nigerians. The police have since retrieved two separate national identification forms with personal details of the two applicants.

The NIA is mandated to register both citizens and non-citizens to create, maintain, provide and promote the use of national ID cards in order to advance economic, political and social activities in the country.
The differentiation features on the Ghana Card for Ghanaians and foreign nationals are the nationality code in the Personal Identification Number (PIN).
