The Nigerian Police h as been ordered to pay the whopping sum of N50 million to the family of a musician.

The order came from the Rivers State High Court and the said amount is a compensation to the family of Daniel Chibuike-Ikeagwuchi who is known called Sleek.

The musician was reportedly killed by policemen in the state Saturday, September 19, 2020. The police officer is a mobile police officer attached to De Topic supermarket.

The family of the slain musician took the matter to court to demand justice. They prayed to the court to declare the killing of their son unlawful and to award N1bn as compensation.

Per what we gathered, the defendants – the Inspector-General, Mohammed Adamu; the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Joseph Mukan; and two others failed to appear in court in all the two sittings.

During the last adjourned case date of November 23, they presented a counter-affidavit that was outrightly rejected by the court.

The presiding judge then had no option than to grant the wish of the claimant and declared that the gruesome murder of Sleek contravened the constitution of Nigeria.

He then stated that the failure of the police to arraign the officers who killed Sleek was illegal and awarded N50million against the defendants.
