A female student of the Federal Government College, Birnin-Yauri, Kebbi State, who had the chance to flee the attack on the school on Thursday disclosed that the gunmen who attacked the school are not Nigerians.

One police officer perished in the attack in which the gunmen overpowered the police officers on the ground. Some teachers were reported to be part of the victims of the abduction together with the students.

Speaking after the attack, the female student stated that two of her classmates were being treated for gunshot wounds sustained during the attack.

Some of the pupils were freed by the gunmen, while others were taken away, she said.

They grabbed four teachers — Mr Kabantyok, Mallam Bash, the security officer, and the vice president of student affairs; they took Mr Jekonia, that tall man at the primary school, and his wife,” she explained.

“They took some students. They shot one Senior Secondary School 3 boy. They shot two students. I think they are under treatment now.

“They took SSS 1 and SSS 2 students, mostly girls and those people (referring to the gunmen), I don’t think they are from Nigeria at all.”

Kebbi abduction remains the latest of the number of attacks on schools across the northern part of the country.

In the Northern Nigeria, there has been several attacks on schools and abduction of students and teachers inclusive.

A student was slain and at least ten individuals were kidnapped last Thursday when gunmen stormed the Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic’s main campus in Zaria, Kaduna state.

According to Samuel Aruwan, the state’s commissioner of internal security, the gunmen kidnapped two lecturers and eight pupils.

Aruwan verified that two pupils were shot; one died and the other was hospitalized.
