The President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari and many eminent Nigerians have gathered at the Mobolaji Johnson Railway Complex, Ebute-Metta, Lagos to commission the Lagos-Ibadan railway line for commercial purposes.
The commissioning saw the presence of Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola and Nobel laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka.
According to Vanguard, Amaechi arrived at the venue at 9:00 a.m. with his wife, Judith, dressed in a green Niger Delta outfit with a matching cap. The 156km standard gauge consists of ten stations, each with cutting-edge amenities such as car parks, elevators, and ultra-modern terminals.
The wonderful occasion also saw the presence of Information and Culture Minister, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, his Sports and Youth Development counterpart, Sunday Dare, Senator Oluremi Tinubu and Senator Ibikunle Amosun.
Others include Ekiti state governor, Kayode Fayemi and Oyo state governor, Seyi Makinde amongst others.
In other news, the Federal Government has declared Monday, 14th June as a public holiday to mark the Democracy Day Celebration of this year.
The minister advised Nigerians to embrace the spirit of brotherhood in order for peace to flourish in the country. He also urged citizens to support the current administration’s efforts to ensure a united and prosperous nation.
The statement was titled, ‘FG declares Monday, June 14, 2021, public holiday to mark this year’s Democracy Day celebration.’
The statement read in part,
“The Federal Government, congratulated Nigerians on this occasion and urged all citizens to support the present administration in its efforts at ensuring a united and prosperous nation.
“Aregbesola said any form of agitation that threatens the unity of the country should be shunned for the good of all, saying the space known as Nigeria would be a haven of peace, unity and progress if all citizens love his or her neighbour and embrace the spirit of brotherliness.
“As we mark another Democracy Day in the history of our dear country, let us reflect on the efforts of our founding fathers and ensure that Nigeria remains one united and indivisible entity.
“No development can take place in an acrimonious environment.
“With the challenges we face in Nigeria today, I see an opportunity for us not to break up or break down but to break open; open up to ourselves in truth so that we may appreciate each other, understand each other, honour each other and live together in peace and prosperity.
“There will surely be light at the end of the tunnel.”
