The local organizing committee of the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup has finally unveiled the official logo for the tournament.

The event took place on Tuesday night (September 3) in Doha with thousands of spectators and football lovers present to witness the unveiling.

The logo was projected in the country’s most iconic buildings, including Burj Doha, Katara Cultural Village Amphitheatre, Souq Waqif, and Al Zubarah Fort – a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The emblem was unveiled in 24 other major cities across the world including London, Johannesburg, Mexico City, Mumbai, Paris, and Seoul.

The design is reportedly a stylized Arabic white unisekz shawl with maroon patterning, which is displayed in a figure-of-eight symbolizing infinity while creating a heart shape above the words “FIFA WORLD CUP Qatar 2022”.

On why inspired the design, the LOC for the tournament indicated that it was inspired by traditional woollen shawls worn during the winter months.

The 22nd edition of the World Cup, which will be the first staged in the Arab world, will get underway on November 21, 2022. The final will be played on December 18, 2022, Qatar’s National Day.
