Real Madrid opened their 2020-21 Champions League campaign with a shock home defeat against a depleted Shakhtar Donetsk side.
The 13-time champions were beaten 3-2 by the Ukrainian champions, whose squad was dominated by youth players. They arrived in Madrid without 13 first-team players after 19 positive Covid-19 tests throughout the club.
However, an exceptional first-half performance saw them take a three-nil lead.
Real Madrid improved in the second half, scoring two goals and nearly earned a draw. They scored a last-minute goal which was ruled out by Video Assistant Referee.
