The president of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has urged the senior national team of Ghana, the Black Stars, to show respect to their coach and their new captain as the leave for Dubai to begin their preparation for the AFCON tournament.
The president met with the Black Star playing body and the management members on Thursday as they team prepared to leave for Dubai to begin preparations for the AFCON.
He further urged the team to bring the trophy home, a trophy Ghana last won more that three decades ago.
Here is what he said;
“You have to respect unreservedly, the authority of the Coach and the authority of the Captain. That is basic rules, non negotiable rules, if you don’t do it, everybody will be going their separate ways. If you do that, you cement the team work and you will become a cohesive forceful force.
Teamwork is at the heart of success in football as it is in virtually every enterprise. Without it, you can’t succeed. Work for each other on the field of play. Helping each other to win the trophy, that is the team work we are looking at.
So your slogan, that is the slogan of the year, “the year of return”, this indeed is the year of return.
It is my intention to come and watch your first match on the 25th of June and if with God’s Grace which I believe He will give us, you make the final, I would come there as well to come and watch you.”
