Perpetua Nkwocha, the former captain of the Super Falcons, is currently in mourning following the death of her husband Ernest Ikechukwu Nwufoh, who died at a private hospital in Awka, the capital of Anambra.

According to Soccernet, the deceased was a lecturer who had a brief illness before passing away

. According to the Nation, his death occurred about five years after their wedding ceremony in Owerri, the capital of Imo state.

Nkwocha is still regarded as one of Nigeria’s greatest female footballers, having represented the country in seven Africa Women Cup of Nations tournaments, winning five of them.

The 45-year-old Super Falcons captain won 99 caps and appeared in four World Cups. She is the first woman footballer to have won the African Women’s Player of the Year award four times.

Nkwocha finished second to current Super Falcons captain Asisat Oshoala, who was named the best Nigerian female footballer in history by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

Oshoala was named the winner of a poll conducted by FIFA, Africa’s football governing body, in which fans were asked to vote for their favorite Nigerian female footballer.

Mercy Akide, Perpetua Nkocha, and Cynthia Uwak are among the other Nigerian ex-footballers who have been nominated. Asisat Oshoala received 53% of the total votes, Perpetua Nkwocha received31%, Mercy Akide received1%, and Uwak received only one cote.

Asisat Oshoala began her football career on the street corners before joining FC Robo, where she was given the opportunity to join Rivers Angels in 2013.
