We all have a favourite musician whom we think is the best based from our perspective.
However, sometimes a measuring rod is used to separate one artiste from the other based on factors such is awards, worldwide appeal and relevance in the music industry plus more.
And this is where Richie Mensah, the dude who discovered the sensational duo Kuame Eugene and KiDi, is coming from.
According to the Lynx entertainment general, Nigerian acts Wizkid and Davido are bigger than Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie and he provided a proof to substantiate his claim.
According to him, even though Sarkodie is a household name on the contineet, Davido and Wizkid are way ahead of him because they are singers whiles Sarkodie is a rapper.
Richie said this during the launch of Eastern Music Awards in Koforidua last week where he was a guest speaker at the event.
He said:
“Apart from Osibisa, Sarkodie has broken barriers internationally. There is no country in Africa where people don’t know Sarkodie.
If you say mention 10 African artistes and Sarkodie’s name is always part but the reason Sarkodie is not on the same level as Wizkid or Davido is that he is a rapper.”
Richie used Phyno and Olamide as a case study to buttress his point. He said both artistes (Phyno and Olamide) have not been able to blow up on the international front (particularly in Ghana) because they rap in their native languages that are not understood by people who are not their natives.
