Now every single Ghanaian is aware of the bitter rivalry between two of the biggest artistes in Ghana, Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy. Many have wondered how the two got to this point of their rivalry, with the genesis of the rivalry being unknown to most people.

Shatta Wale, long before his re-branding, performed under the name ‘BANDANA’ and recorded songs as far back as 2004, while Stonebwoy also recorded tracks as far back as 2004 as an ‘underground rapper’.

Their rivalry is reported to have started around 2004, several years before the duo became ‘STARS’ with both artiste participating in the “Battle Days” event at the popular Tawala Beach in Accra.

It was revealed that, Battle Days held a dancehall competition that Stonebwoy really dominated, and this eventually led to the genesis of their rivalry.

In 2015, the bad blood between them was someway settled when Stonebwoy invited Shatta Wale on stage during his acceptance speech at an awards show.

But in 2018, 2018 saw the beef between Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale escalated with the two artistes continually throwing shots at each other, especially during interviews and live broadcasts over social media channels.

Shatta Wale in March 2018 threw the first punch by release a song titled “No Mercy For The Cripple,” which was a direct jab to Stonebwoy where he made reference to the artiste’s knee condition, which Stonebwoy never responded.

In September 2018, Stonebwoy in an interview was quizzed was about several claims made by Shatta Wale that he has been trying to reach out to Stonebwoy for a collaboration but Stonebwoy won’t respond.

Stonebwoy became extremely infuriated, and subsequently got angry and responded that Shatta Wale cannot circulate rumors that he is responsible for his mother’s death (whom he lost in July 2015) and still come to find peace with him like nothing happened.

You go around and diss my mother and say that I kill my mother and I see some fans tweeting it and some bullsh!t and some foolishness… I kill my mother?! You go and say I kill my mother and you go behind me and say … I’m waiting for one person to come and stand in front of me including himself to tell me that I killed my mother. And it would be beautiful in this Ghana, you understand. So tell him to f**k off!… If it was in the same Jamaica, he’ll be dead by now! … Nigga thinks he’s a G, Nigga thinks he’s a Jamaican… Don’t diss people and go back and beg them! … Who dey insult other artistes pass you? You think say the country be your own?”, Stonebwoy said in the interview.

After all these incidents, a latest development ensued at the just ended VGMA event with Stonebwoy pulling a gun.

During the event, an endless drama ensued when Stonebwoy was receiving the award for Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year, Shatta Wale and his crew attempted to come on stage.

A fight started between the two artiste’s groups and, video shot of the event, shows Stonebwoy pulling out a gun. No one was harmed and the awards eventually went on.

Stonebwoy later apologized for his actions saying; “I only had to react out of natural instincts because we all know how premeditative some people can be. We’ve seen on social media the threats and everything so we couldn’t come in unprepared. I come in peace and I go in peace and I apologize to the whole masses of Ghana that the awards is going to continue.”

Shatta Wale on the other hand defended what he did by also saying; “My crew had good intentions.” He further added that he went on stage to congratulate Stonebwoy and bring unity to Ghanaian music.
