Shatta Wale granted an interview to Joy FM yesterday Oct. 26 for the first time after his hugely successful Reign album launch and mega concert at the Fantasy Dome in Accra.

Wale’s interviews are fraught with volatility and this one was no different. Opana touched on a wide range of issues but one thing he talked about which raised few eyebrows was when he admitted that he had used juju before at a point in time in his career.

According to a grapevine narrative, Shatta Wale is heavily immersed in juju, reinforced by how he suddenly took Ghana music by storm, years after his career literally died when he was called Bandana.

Responding to this for the first time, the Gringo hitmaker confirmed the rumours, saying he has used juju several times to help his career but to no avail.

According to him, juju cannot make a musician famous, rather quality music does.

He said:

“I have Mallams who are my friends, they send me messages. Some of them I have been telling not to send me particular messages because I know they can’t do that.

“If I say let me have free world, sing music, I don’t want to have a problem with anybody; juju doesn’t do that. The only thing juju can do is to cure malaria, hepatitis and those things. But juju making somebody famous is a lie.

“I have tried plenty of juju, I won’t lie to you and I am telling you that they can cure sickness but not to make somebody famous. Juju doesn’t work for me because I have tried it”.
