South Africa saw the deadliest day yet in the COVID-19 outbreak with 572 fatalities on Wednesday, to take the total death toll to 5,940.
South Africa are first and fifth on the list of worst-hit countries of the pandemic in Africa and the world respectively.
According to the country’s health ministry, almost half the country’s total number of deaths have been reported in the Western Cape province.
The majority of confirmed coronavirus cases are however in Gauteng province, the country’s financial hub and epicenter of the pandemic.
Their confirmed coronavirus cases currently stand at 394,948.
