A South African footballer named Anele Ngongca has been killed in a car crash.
The former international, who was driving between Johannesburg and Druban is reported to have died on the scene of the accident.
He was driving to complete his move from Mamelodi Sundowns to Amazulu United. He had agreed to join the latter on loan.
The two clubs confirmed the sad news in a joint statement.
“AmaZulu and Mamelodi Sundowns FC extend their deepest condolences to the Ngcongca family, former clubs, teammates, supporters and the broader football fraternity as well as everyone who was touched by the life of this exceptional football ambassador,” the announcement read.
The midfielder was part of South Africa squad that featured at the 2010 World Cup, which the African country hosted.
He had helped Sundowns win a third straight Premier Soccer League title last season.
