A young South African lady has recounted how she started her foster home at the young age of 19.

She shared this in a recent social media post she made in the popular South African Facebook group, #ImStaying.

Sharing the post, she wrote;

“I had an I’m staying moment today, when I received a beautiful message from a complete stranger who stumbled across my page.My journey into foster care and temporary safe care started about 2 years ago when I decided to open my own safe haven for abused and abandoned little ones at the young age of 19.I’ve always loved helping people and doing community work.

However, I woke up one day wanting to do more and mean more. And I knew that foster care would allow me to do exactly that. So I started with the process, which to my surprise took quite some time. However the day they placed my first safe care baby into my arms, I knew that I was doing exactly what I was suppose to be doing. Over the past year I have met so many amazing people. Georgina who is such a great mentor to me and who continues to inspire me.

Zelda who I admire for the work she does. Carla and wilma ad dr Andrew and his family. My own family who love my babies like their own. The list continues and I’m so grateful for all the people who make this possible.At 21 years old, it is such an honour to serve these children in the best way I possible can, and I can say with full certainty that this is the path I am ment to walk.

So this is why I’m staying, because I get to love and care for the most vulnerable children in our community. And I get to share this journey with an amazing community of people, who never shy’s away from helping and supporting each other even if it’s just by sendig beautiful message with uplifting words.”
