Tiwa Savage, as she is popularly known, is a renowned Nigerian singer who has made a massive impact in the Nigerian music industry today.
Undoubtedly, she is one Nigeria’s major female acts raising and flying the flag of Nigeria when it comes to music.
Tiwatope Savage, which happens to be her real name was born on 5th February, 1980 and relocated to London at the age of 11.
She started her music career as a backing vocalist for legendary artists like Mary J Blige and George Michael. She also participated in the UK edition of X Factor and signed a publishing deal with Sony/ATV Music in 2009.
Tiwa Savage moved back to Nigeria in 2012 and singed with one Nigeria’s biggest record label, Mavins Records which had the likes of Reekado Banks and Korde Bello.
She was once married to her manager and Tunji popularly known as Tee Bills but unfortunately their marriage hit rocks.
The singer has received many song writing credits for instance, her collaboration with Mary J Blige on ‘Collard Greens & Cornbread’ which earned her Grammy nomination in 2010 and also performed background vocals on Whitney Houston’s ‘I Look To You’.
She has won awards such as the Best African Act at MTV Europe Music Awards, which made her the first woman to have won that category.
In May 2019, she announced her record deal with Universal Music and the exit from Mavin Records, a record label which she had been under for quite sometime now.
Tiwa Savage is blessed with a gorgeos son, Jamil Balogun, who turned 4 years on 23rd July and currently with her.
