Authorities say she’s corrupt, she exploited poor Angola to earn her money but the UK based entreprenuer claims she acquired her riches through hard work.
After the civil war that destroyed Angola ended, an oil boom that generated billions ended in bust. It was that period José Eduardo dos Santos, was forced to step down as president because he has been in office for too long. It was a period when the elite Angolans made very large fortunes, but none seems to have made more than the former president’s daughter, Isabel dos Santos.
There is a leak of documents showing how Ms Dos Santos got her hands on government properties without proper paper work. She blames this on political witch-hunt. She believes the current Angolan government wants to sabotage her.
She has refuted any claims of stealing from the government of Angola. The billionaire is currently under investigation at home and across Europe. Her assets in Angola are frozen until all investigations are concluded.
BBC Panorama has been given the green light to go through a 700,000 leaked documents of the billionaire’s empire.
Ms Dos Santos’ net worth is $2.2 billion, making her the richest lady in Africa.
