Just after the panel’s chairman, Justice Doris Okuwobi (retired), presented the report at Lagos House, Ikeja, on Monday, Nov. 15, 2021, leading to the conclusion that people were killed and injured at the Lekki Toll Gate on October 20, 2020, during the End SARS protests, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, obtained the findings and appointed a four-member committee.

In two weeks, the committee headed by Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Moyosore Onigbanjo (SAN), will produce a White Paper, and Sanwo-Olu promised that the state government’s actions will be governed by the law and in the benefit of the people.

The US Mission in Nigeria said in a statement on Tuesday, Nov. 16, that it is awaiting a response from President Muhammadu Buhari’s government and the Lagos authorities.

Official actions, according to the Embassy, are part of a process that serves as a crucial accountability mechanism in relation to the EndSARS protests and the incidents at the tollgate.

“Those events led to serious allegations against some members of the security forces,” the statement reads.

“We look forward to the Lagos State and federal governments taking suitable measures to address those alleged abuses as well as the grievances of the victims and their families.”
