The Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Madam Cecilia Abena Dapaah has urged everyone to use “free water” very wisely following directives from president to absorb all water bills for three months.

As part of the directives laid down by the government to free Ghanaians from certain amenities, the President announced in his last nation’s address that all Ghanaians will be freed from paying water bills in the next three months; that’s April, May and June.

The president also directed the Ghana water company Limited (GWCL) and the Electricity company of Ghana to ensure a stable supply of water and electricity during the lockdown period.

“Again, the Ghana Water Company Ltd and the Electricity Company of Ghana have been directed to ensure the stable supply of water and electricity during this period. In addition, there will be no disconnection of supply. Furthermore, the government will absorb the water bills for all Ghanaians for the next three months, ie, April, May, and June. All water tankers, publicly and privately-owned, are also going to be mobilized to ensure the supply of water to all vulnerable communities” the president stated

After the announcement by the president, some videos started circulating on social media with some people misusing water in their various houses.

Addressing the issue at a press conference, madam Cecilia Dapaah advised the public to desist from wasting water.

“…by God grace, it will soon rain so don’t use the water for your gardens, and don’t use much water in washing your car, if not we will soon ban washing of cars, let all use our head and use water wisely”, Hon. Cecilia Abena Dapaah said.
