German Car Producton Company Volkswagen on Thursday 17 September, 2020 launched a production collaboratoin with BlackIvy and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia served as Guest Speaker.

His Excellency Vice President of the Republic of Ghana disclosed the launch in his Facebook post where he shared the news.

He wrote in his post ;

“I was the Guest Speaker at the joint launch of a strategic collaboration between Volkswagen and BlackIvy for the production of affordable homes and affordable cars for the Ghanaian people. This is a manifestation of our Government’s Made in Ghana strategy that underpins Ghana Beyond Aid.

I noted that for the Automotive industry to be successful, there must be enough domestic demand for the vehicles produced. In this context our proposed National Transport Recapitalization Project will provide a lease-to-own option to all commercial drivers to exchange their old cars for new made or assembled in Ghana vehicles.

The issuance of national identity cards along with the implementation of the digital property address system, the mobile money interoperability and the universal QR Code will allow for the development of a credit system with credit reference agencies to make this work. In this regard I reiterated that our government will be able to provide better options to Okada riders to lease-to-own vehicles if they choose and therefore we would not legalize Okada operations.

Every life matters, and we will continue to ensure that safe, affordable means of transportation and livelihood are provided for every Ghanaian.”

The German Car Producton Company built their production and assembly plant some months ago. The big news out of this is that, they have promised to produce safe and affordable cars for Ghanaian market.
