In Ghana, when it comes to updating the list of musicians who mostly samples other people’s songs, you cannot do without adding the names of Kuami Eugene and Mr. Drew.
As we speak, Kuami Eugene is preparing to face the Accra High court after he was accused by a Nigerian artiste known as Oduma Essan of stealing his song. Oduma is requesting an amount of GHC120,000 as damages for the cost of the production of his song and music video.
Not only that, Kuami Eugene has been accused and busted so many times for sampling other people’s songs but one thing we are refusing to pay attention to is that most of these songs he samples are either old or not popular but his sampling automatically becomes hits.
Mr. Drew on the other hand has also been identified as one of the artistes in the song sampling business. It would be vividly recalled that he was busted for stealing Rotimi’s “Love Riddim” for his “Eat” song featuring Stonebwoy.
Mr. Drew revealed in an interview that he learned how to steal songs from Kuami Eugene, tagging him as his senior in the song sampling business.
Kuami Eugene, by the way, lambasted him for making such statements against him.
Well, in a video sighted on Okyeame Kwame’s Instagram page, it seems the two have buried the hatchet as they perform Kuami Eugene’s “Dollar On You” together at Drew’s birthday event at Adjiringanor.
From the video, we can say the two have smoked the peace pipe and for that particular moment, it seems nothing happened between them.
