The minister of Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif has debunked claims that Ghana spent $25 million on the campaign at the 2021 African Cup of Nations.

Speaking on the floor of parliament, Mustapha Ussif explained they only spent $2 million from the fundraising campaign the nation embarked on. He emphasized that the nation did not spend $25 milli on on the Black Stars campaign at the AFCON 2021.

“The target we were trying to raise was $25 million. For the record, I have to make the clarity that the $25 million was a fundraising drive to sporting events but not the amount that was given for the Black Stars AFCON campaign”, he said.

“Prior to our departure for the campaign, I announced to the people of Ghana that out of the fundraising drive seeking to support the national team, the ministry has been able to realize $2 million out of the set target of $25 million”, the Sports minister revealed.

In other news, the midfielder of Hearts of Oak, Salifu Mantse is set to miss his side’s super clash with the Asante Kotoko on the 20th of February, 2022. Salifu got injured during the Phobian’s defeat to Karela United hence could miss the biggest game on the Ghanian football calendar. Salifu Mantse will be sidelined for three-four weeks due to his foot injury.
