The Acting Director-General of Ghana Broadcast ing Corporation, Augustine Yamson has declared that GBC will soon re-introduce the payment of the TV Licence fee to enable the Corporation concentrate more on Public Service Broadcasting and also improve content.
This subjected generated a huge uproar in Ghana in 2018 when the government announced that it will revisit the past and collect TV license to generate money for the station of the nation, GTV.
Domestic TV users were expected to pay between GH¢36 and GH¢60 for one or more TV sets in the same house every year, TV set repairers and sales outlets were to pay an annual sum of between GHc60 to GHc240.
For commercial TV operators, they are to pay GHc36 per annum for each TV set. However, the hullabaloo forced the government to hold on with the decision but it seems they want to carry on with it.
Mr. Yamson made this known when Executives of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) paid a visit to the management of GBC to show appreciation for GBC’s assistance during the launch of the GJA’s 70 anniversary.
