Although no African te am is yet to reach further than the quarterfinals at the World Cup, their individual footballers have been recognized for their talents.

El Hadji Ousseynou Diouf is a Senegalese retired footballer. Throughout his career, Diouf played as a winger or a forward.

10. Nwankwo Kanu

Nwankwo Kanu, OON, or simply Kanu, is a retired Nigerian footballer who played as a forward.

He was a member of the Nigerian national team. Kanu is a native of Abia State, southeast Nigeria, and a member of the Aro sub-group of the Igbo ethnic group. Nwankwo means “Child born on Nkwo market day” in the Igbo language.

9. Sadio Mané

Sadio Mané is a Senegalese professional footballer who plays as a winger for Premier League club Liverpool and the Senegal national team.

Having begun his career with Metz in France, he transferred to Red Bull Salzburg in 2012.

8. Frédéric Kanouté

Frédéric Oumar Kanouté is a retired Malian professional footballer who played as a striker for several top-tier clubs in Europe, enjoying his greatest success with La Liga side Sevilla.

Kanouté was named the 2007 African Footballer of the Year, the first player born outside Africa to win the award.
