The Electoral Commission of Ghana( EC)’s decision to do away with the previous voters register on the premise that it contains names of unqualified persons so must be discarded for a new one is a plain does not make sense at all.

Yeah, it doesn’t make sense against the backdrop that it’s the same register on which the New Patriotic Party (NPP) rode to power triumphantly in the last general elections.
We believe the EC‘s stance and the fact that the respected body has been unable to confine the right to vote to citizens, as the constitution enjoins, as a result of a register so flawed that it does not equip them to satisfactorily police the citizenship-eligibility of voters, paves the way for chaos in our democratic dispensation.

The Voters ID, before its acquisition- goes through a lot of formalities that ensure the one who acquires it meets certain regulatory requirements so it’s beats our imagination that the new EC, led by Jean Mensa is doing everything possible to make sure the current one that brought Nana Akufo Addo is vehemently being ditched for a new one.
