In a report by LIB, a female former staff of First Bank of Nigeria Limited, Oreoluwa Adesakin, has will spend up to 98 years in prison.

She was given the sentence by Justice Muniru Olagunju of Oyo High Court for fraud and this was revealed in a statement by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC.

According to the statement, the woman was found to be guilty of committing financial fraud against her employers to the tune of N49,320,652.32.

Additionally, she also converted a whopping $368,203.00 belonging to the bank for her personal use.

Her case was handled by the Ibadan Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and a total of 14 charges bordering on stealing, forgery, and fraudulent accounting were brought against her.

One of the charges reads;

“That you Oreoluwa Adesakin sometime between the months of May 2013 and November 2013, at Ibadan within the Ibadan Judicial Division, whilst being a staff of First Bank PLC stole the sum of N25,974,116.13 from First Bank PLC MoneyGram Payment Naira Account, the property of First bank PLC.”

Upon invitation by the EFCC, she vehemently pleaded not guilty to all the charges and the commission had no option than to proceed with a trial.

During the trial, the counsel of the EFCC, Usman Murtala presented every vital document and witnesses to see to it that she spends over 90 years in jail.

The judge in his judgement pointed to the fact that the EFCC presented a pool of incontrovertible evidence against the convict.

He then stated that the woman is guilty of all the charges levelled against her as he sentenced her to seven years in prison without an option of fine on each of the 14 counts, which will run concurrently.

Aside the given jail term, the convict is also to payback all the monies to the First Bank.
