The world faces imminent condom shortage as popular condom production company, Karex Bhd folds up it business due to the novel coronavirus outbreak.

The Malaysian company which produces condoms to be sold and distributed by Durex has laid down it tools based on a directive by the government to shut down production due to the virus outbreak. According to Reuters, the company which makes one out of every five condoms has been locked down for the past 10 days, making it impossible for them to produce condoms.

About 100 million condoms can be made within 10 days therefore closing down the company will have great effect on supply and demands. Speaking to Reuters, Goh Miah Kiat, Karex Chief Executive revealed said “we are going to see a global shortage of condoms everywhere, which is going to be scary”

and added that he forsees the shortage lasting for a long period of time are companies are out of order.

Other factors which could lead to the shortage is that, condom production companies in countries such as Thailand, India and Malaysia are on the verge of shutting down as the the number of coronavirus cases soar higher.
