13-year old Ghanaian, Kwabena Adu Darko-Asare, a student at DPS International in Ghana has arrived in the US to represent Ghana in the 92nd Scripps National Spelling Bee.

The young boy emerged winner of the 2019 National Spelling Bee in Ghana, taking over from 2018 national champion, Shifa Amankwa-Gabbey.

Yoofi Baah of SOS Hermann Gmeiner School was the first runner-up and Jeremy Agyei Baafour-Agyei also of DPS International Ghana emerged, 2nd Runner-up.

He will be competing with 564 other spellers from several countries. Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States of America, Dr Barfuor Adjei-Barwuah, paid a visit to Kwabena Adu Darko-Asare to welcome him to the USA.

The 92nd Scripps National Spelling Bee is taking place this week in Washington, DC. Each year, more than 11 million students start their journey to the national stage in classrooms across the US.
