Police in the Ashanti region have arrested 4 of Menzgold’s customers over their involvement in violent demonstration yesterday in Kumasi.

The suspects were among hundreds of aggrieved customers who hit the streets of the Kumasi Metropolis without police permit to stage a demonstration against the company and government over the locked up investments.

The four were arrested due to an untoward attitude conducted during the demonstration.

According to the Ashanti Regional Police Command, the demonstration which saw the customers were blocking major roads within the Kumasi city while matching to the Manhyia Palace to present a petition to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II is illegal.

Ashanti Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) ASP Godwin Ahianyo said the police will have an emergency meeting with the leaders of embittered Menzgold customers to determine the next line of action.

Meanwhile, spokesperson of the coalition of aggrieved customers of Menzgold, Francis Owusu is calling on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to intervene in the matter as several persons have lost their livelihood to the company threatening more of such violent demonstrations in the future.

He said, “It is going to be one of the mega protests that has even happened in this country because all the Menzgold customers across the country will be coming to Kumasi to protest against the insensitivity of our president towards our plight. We have petitioned Otumfuo Osei Tutu II on this issue and we have been to his office for about three times so we are going to send a letter of reminder to Otumfuo’s office”.
