Curtis James Jackson III (born July 6, 1975), better known as 50 Cent, is an American rapper, actor, television producer, and businessman. Jackson, who was born in Queens’ South Jamaica neighborhood, began his musical career in 1996.

He recorded his “debut” album Power of the Dollar for Columbia Records in early 2000, but he was hit by nine bullets during a shooting in May of that year, leading the album’s release to be canceled and Jackson to be released from the label. Eminem discovered Jackson and signed him to his label Shady Records, an imprint of Dr. Dre’s Aftermath Entertainment and Interscope Records, after he released the mixtape Guess Who’s Back? in 2002

Who is 50 Cent?

50 Cent was born in the New York City borough of Queens and raised by his mother Sabrina in the South Jamaica neighborhood. Sabrina, a heroin dealer, raised Jackson until she died in a fire when he was eight years old. In an interview, Jackson stated that his mother was a lesbian. Jackson was raised by his grandparents when his mother died and his father left.

He started boxing around the age of 11, and when he was 14, a neighbor opened a boxing gym for neighborhood kids. “When I wasn’t killing time in school, I was sparring in the gym or selling crack on t he strip,” Jackson said. During primary school, he sold crack. “I used to be competitive in the ring, and hip-hop is competitive as well… I believe rappers condition themselves like boxers to feel like champions.”

Jackson began peddling drugs at the age of 12 when his grandparents mistook him for a student in after-school programs and brought guns and drug money to school. Metal detectors detected him at Andrew Jackson High School in the tenth grade: “I felt mortified that I got arrested like that… I stopped hiding it when I was arrested. “I was openly telling my grandmother, ‘I sell drugs.'” In 1994, his mugshot was taken.
