Odikro of Okyerekrom in the Akrofuom district, Nana Adyei Amoako Gyampa II has expressed worried about an abandoned pit constructed by the Anglogold Ashanti Obuasi mine.

According to the chief, AGA has turned on death ears after the pit collapsed in 2012 posing a threat to farmers who have their farmlands around the pit.

The pit, which has allegedly claimed 10 lives as of 2012 is a worry to the chief and the entire residents hence necessary actions must be taken to end missing souls.

Addressing the press, the chief of the area, Nana Amoako Gyampa II gave a two-week ultimatum to AngloGold Ashanti to reclaim the pit or face their wrath.

Some residents noted that their relatives who ply their farming activities around the pit kept missing after the pit collapsed.

That notwithstanding, harmful chemicals such as cyanide and mercury used in retrieving gold by the company in 2012 has polluted a river they used to feed their various homes.

The chief and his residents have, however, cautioned the mining giant to reclaim the dangerous pit and hence face their anger after a 14-day ultimatum.

Meanwhile, Anglogold Ashanti Obuasi mine has turned on death ears to their grievances as the company pulls the Okyerekrom community from communities under the trust fund.
