Austin Theory changed his WWE name to just Theory and explained during his on-screen push with WWE Chairman Vince McMahon in April 2022, that he had to drop his first name because he and the boss decided that the name “Austin” didn’t suit him any longer due to how WWE Hall of Famer Steve Austin hit McMahon and Theory with Stunners at WrestleMania but WWE ended up giving the first name back to Theory that September at WWE Clash at The Castle.

Prior to joining WWE, Austin Theory wrestled on the independent circuit, including several promotions under the World Wrestling Network umbrella, such as Full Impact Pro (FIP) and Evolve along the way winning the WWN Championship, FIP World Heavyweight Championship and the Evolve Championship.

In WWE, Austin Theory is a two-time United States Champion and the winner of the 2022 Men’s Money in the Bank ladder match. On April 8, during day 4 of WrestleMania Axxess, Austin Theory retained his WWN Championship against Marcel Barthel.

At Survivor Series WarGames on November 26, Austin Theory defeated Rollins and Lashley in a triple threat match to win his second United States Championship, and on the December 5 episode of Raw, he retained the title against Mustafa Ali by disqualification after being attacked by the returning Dolph Ziggler. On the January 2, 2023, episode of Raw, Austin Theory retained the title against Rollins, as well as Lashley in a No Disqualification match at Raw Is XXX on January 23 after interference from the returning Lesnar.

On February 18 at Elimination Chamber, Austin Theory successfully defended the title against Bronson Reed, Damian Priest, Johnny Gargano, Montez Ford, and Seth Rollins in an Elimination Chamber match, marking the first time the title was contested inside the namesake structure.

On the following episode of Raw, Austin Theory retained the title against Edge after interference from Finn Bálor. On the March 6 episode of Raw, Austin Theory challenged the returning John Cena to a match for the title at WrestleMania 39, which Cena accepted. At Night 1 of the event, Theory defeated Cena to retain the title.
