Prior to his executive career, Myers had a background as a sports agent with Wasserman Media Group, where he worked under renowned agent Arn Tellem. Myers himself had a college basketball career as a player for the UCLA Bruins from 1993 to 1997, during which he was part of the NCAA championship-winning team in 1995. Following his playing days, Myers ventured into radio commentary for UCLA b asketball for a couple of seasons until 2002.

Having grown up in Danville, California, located in the San Francisco Bay Area, Bob Myers attended Monte Vista High School. Although he excelled in basketball at Monte Vista, he did not envision himself playing for a prominent college program.

Only a junior college showed interest in recruiting him. Initially, he planned to pursue rowing like his brother but ended up crossing paths with UCLA assistant basketball coach Steve Lavin during a visit to the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Lavin suggested Myers try out for the basketball team, which ultimately led him to join UCLA.

Through his connection with coach Jim Harrick, Myers was introduced to sports agent Arn Tellem and started his career as an intern at Tellem and Associates in 1997 while simultaneously attending Loyola Law School to obtain his law degree.

Myers quickly rose through the ranks to become one of Tellem’s top associates, specializing in contract negotiation and player recruitment. In 2000, the agency transitioned to SFX Sports, where Myers assumed the role of vice president.

Over a span of 14 years as an agent, the last five of which were spent at Wasserman Media Group, Myers negotiated contracts worth over $575 million and represented notable clients such as Brandon Roy, Tyreke Evans, and Kendrick Perkins.

In April 2011, Myers joined the Golden State Warriors as an assistant general manager. Although he was initially expected to serve as an apprentice under general manager Larry Riley for a few years, Myers’ progress impressed the organization. Consequently, on April 24, 2012, he was promoted to the position of general manager after just 12 months with the team.

Under Myers’ leadership, the Warriors enjoyed a successful draft in 2012, made significant acquisitions in 2012-13, and advanced to the second round of the playoffs, marking their best postseason finish in 36 years.

His key choices, including hiring coach Steve Kerr and retaining Klay Thompson by signing him to a contract extension instead of trading him for Kevin Love, played a pivotal role in the team’s remarkable 67-15 record, the best in the league.

The Warriors went on to win the 2015 NBA Finals by defeating the Cleveland Cavaliers in six games. In the 2015-16 season, despite setting an NBA-record with 73 regular-season wins, the team fell short of back-to-back titles, losing to the Cavaliers in seven games.

Ahead of the 2016-17 season, Myers assumed the additional role of president of basketball operations, directly reporting to majority owner Joe Lacob.
