The President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo has comm iserated with the families of the deceased persons following the gas explosion that occurred at Apenti, a suburb in Bogoso in the Western Region.

It was black Thursday for the people of Apenti when a gory accident that allegedly took over a hundred lives hit the community.

Reports from Onua FM suggest that the accident was caused by a Fuel Tanker Truck overtaking on the road.

The overtaking is said to have caused the fuel tanker truck to capsize, resulting in a tremendous explosion. This happened at a gas station as well. As a result, one can imagine the type of explosion.

The number of deaths, according to the reporter, is estimated to be in the hundreds (100). Authorities are currently on their way to the scene in order to maintain law and order.

Reacting to the brutal accident that has evoked several sad reactions from the citizens of Ghanaians, the President has offered some words of sympathy to the bereaved families.

Taking to the microblogging platform, the President wrote;

I have just received a briefing on the circumstances that led to an explosion in Apiate near Bogoso, in the Western Region, resulting in the loss of lives and the destruction of properties belonging to residents. 1/4

It is a truly sad, unfortunate and tragic incident, and I extend, on behalf of Government, deep condolences to the families of the deceased, and I wish the injured a speedy recovery. 2/4

The Police, Armed Forces and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) are co-ordinating efforts to contain the situation, and I have also instructed NADMO to see to it that rapid relief is brought to residents of the town. 3/4

Government will spare no effort to ensure a rapid return to a situation of normalcy for residents of Apiate. 4/4
