Bonnie Crombie Children: Meet Natasha, Jonathan, and Alex – Bonnie Crombie, formerly Bonnie Stack, was born on February 5, 1960, and is a Canadian politician currently serving as the 6th and current mayor of Mississauga since December 1, 2014.

Prior to her mayoral position, Crombie had an extensive political career. She was a Liberal member of Parliament for Mississauga—Streetsville from 2008 to 2011. Following that, she served as a councillor for Ward 5 on Mississauga City Council and on the Council of the Region of Peel from 2011 to 2014.

Crombie obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and international relations from St. Michael’s College at the University of Toronto in 1982. She later earned her Master of Business Administration from the Schulich School of Business at York University in 1992.

Before entering politics, Crombie worked as an entrepreneur and public affairs consultant, collaborating with clients such as the Insurance Board of Canada, McDonald’s, and Disney.

In her political journey, Bonnie Crombie served as campaign manager for John Nunziata’s 2003 mayoral bid in Toronto and as the Greater Toronto Area co-campaign manager for Michael Ignatieff’s leadership campaign for the Liberal Party of Canada in 2006.

She was elected as a member of Parliament for Mississauga—Streetsville in the 2008 federal election but was later defeated in the 2011 federal election by Conservative candidate Brad Butt.

Following her federal defeat, Crombie successfully ran for Mississauga City Council in a by-election in 2011. She faced some legal challenges related to alleged violations of election finance rules but was cleared of charges.

In the 2014 mayoral election, with the retirement of long-serving Mayor Hazel McCallion, Crombie ran and secured a decisive victory over other candidates, including Steve Mahoney, to become the new mayor of Mississauga.

Crombie was re-elected for her second term as mayor in 2018, winning with a significant majority. She continued her success by winning the 2022 mayoral election for a third term.

In May 2023, there were speculations about Crombie’s potential candidacy for the 2023 Ontario Liberal Party Leadership Election. She was actively involved in party events, attending the Ontario Liberal Party’s annual general meeting and the Liberal Party of Canada’s national convention. On May 22, 2023, it was announced that Crombie had formed an exploratory committee and was expected to make an official announcement the following day.
