He developed a passion for wrestling at a younger age, was consistent throughout his career, and became one of the most sought-after professional wrestlers.
Wyatt worked in WWE from 2009 to 2021, when he was released. He returned to the company a year later. He became a WWE Champion in 2017.
Wyatt wrestled as multiple characters during his career, including as a member of The Wyatt Family and as a nightmarish masked alter ego called The Fiend.
Sadly the former WWE champion has died. Wyatt passed away at 36 on Thursday, 24th August 2023. It has been reported he died of a heart attack.
The news of his death was announced by WWE chief content creator and former wrestler, Triple H via X (formerly known as Twitter). He wrote;
“Just received a call from WWE Hall of Famer Mike Rotunda who informed us of the tragic news that our WWE family member for life Windham Rotunda – also known as Bray Wyatt – unexpectedly passed earlier today. Our thoughts are with his family and we ask that everyone respect their privacy at this time”
WWE confirmed Wyatt’s demise in a post via X; “WWE is saddened to learn that Windham Rotunda, also known as Bray Wyatt, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 24, at age 36. WWE extends its condolences to Rotunda’s family, friends and fans”
Wyatt had been out of action in the WWE ring since late February due to illness. It was recently reported he was close to getting cleared to return with the company putting together plans for his comeback.
The three-time WWE world champion had not competed since his win over LA Knight in a Mountain Dew Pitch Black Match at the Royal Rumble back in January 2023.
Dwayne Johnson tweeted: “Im heartbroken over the news of Bray Wyatt’s passing. Always had tremendous respect and love for him and the Rotunda family. Loved his presence, promos, in ring work and connection with @wwe universe.
Very unique, cool and rare character, which is hard to create in our crazy world of pro wrestling. Still processing losing the goat, Terry Funk yesterday and now Bray today. My love, light, strength & mana to the Rotunda family and Funk family during this tough, heartbreaking time”
Byron Saxton tweeted; “The world witnessed a man with bountiful creative brilliance. I saw a kind man who always had time to spread the gift of laughter. I’ll miss calling you “Husky Rusky” and I’ll miss hearing the greeting of “Sax the Max.” Our industry was better because we had you in it #BrayWyatt”
