Mahomes did not anticipate playing collegiate soccer after high school, but after talking to players she knew, she decided to play for the Texas–Tyler Patriots women’s soccer team at the University of Texas at Tyler.
Mahomes met up with her teammate Chestley Strother from Whitehouse High School at Texas-Tyler, who helped her get recruited to UT Tyler.
After losing to Trinity University Tigers in the first round of the 2014 NCAA Division III Women’s Soccer Championship and drawing 1-1 in overtime against Trinity in the first round of the 2015 tournament, the Patriots were invited to the tournaments in both years. The Patriots lost the next penalty shootout 3–4, even though Mahomes scored from the penalty spot.
Mahomes made program history on October 13, 2016, when she concluded the season with four hat-tricks, becoming the first player to do it in both a season and a career.
Mahomes trailed behind Strother in points as of 2023, with 78 overall points, 31 goals, and 111 shots on goal being the second-most by any player in Texas-Tyler history.
During her senior year in 2016, she set single-season program records with 40 points and 18 goals, and single-match records with seven points on September 17, 2016, and October 15, 2016. She earned a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from Texas-Tyler.
Mahomes joined UMF Afturelding, an Icelandic team that played in the third division of the 2. deild kvenna, in May 2017. Her Texas-Tyler and Whitehouse High teammate Strother had already joined with a different league team.
In her one and only season, Mahomes made five appearances and netted two goals. UMF Afturelding won the league and was promoted to the 1. deild kvenna. After the season, Mahomes’ contract with the team was not renewed.
After giving up soccer in 2017, Mahomes moved back to Kansas City and obtained his certification as a fitness trainer. Brittany worked as an intern for Bobby Stroupe, the longtime personal trainer of Patrick Mahomes, during her time in college.
Mahomes often covered for Stroupe throughout the global COVID-19 pandemic of 2020, creating training plans for her lover. In addition, Mahomes established the online fitness business Brittany Lynne Fitness, which she markets as a social media influencer.
An ownership group led by Mahomes was granted an expansion team by the National Women’s Soccer League on December 7, 2020. The team was essentially relocated when the club, then known as Kansas City NWSL, acquired the player contracts and draft picks of Utah Royals FC.
