Rock was born to Rosalie Tingman and Julius Rock, He shares the same parents with his six siblings; six brothers and a sister.
His parents relocated to Brooklyn’s Crown Heights area not long after he was born. They moved and lived in Bedford-Stuyvesant, a working-class neighborhood, a few years later. His mother, Rosalie worked as a a teacher and social worker for the mentally handicapped and his father, Julius who died after ulcer surgery in 1988 was a truck driver and newspaper deliveryman.
