2008 saw an article in People magazine stating that Applegate had been diagnosed with breast cancer. She underwent a double mastectomy despite only having cancer in one breast, and was later deemed cancer-free. She has a genetic mutation called the BRCA1 mutation, which increases the risk of developing breast and ovarian cancer. Her mother also struggled with the disease.

Applegate disclosed that she had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis a few months earlier in August 2021.

The parents of Christina Applegate are Nancy Priddy (mother) and Robert Applegate. They got separated not long after Christina was born.

Her father was reportedly a record producer and record company executive. Her mother is a singer-songwriter and actress from the United States of America. She has made several television appearances as an actress, including Bewitched, The Waltons, and Matlock.

As a member of the Party-Liners group, Priddy performed in musical revues at the Peninsula Players theater close to Fish Creek, Wisconsin, in the summers of 1961 and 1962.

In 1964, she was a part of the brief-lived folk singing group The Bitter End Singers, which also included Lefty Baker, Tina Bohlmann, Bob Hider, Norris O’Neill, and Vilma Vaccaro.

She released the psychedelic folk album You’ve Come This Way Before in 1968, which was hailed by Billboard as a minor classic and by an Allmusic reviewer as an eccentric singer/songwriter album that drew on both folk-rock and psychedelia.
