In 2015, Gafford, a four-star recruit in high school, had offers from several universities, including Florida, Vanderbilt, and Kansas. Gafford moved to Arkansas on August 1, 2015.
Gafford also used to play football growing up and played as a wide receiver until ninth grade at El Dorado High School. He attributes the growth of his skill set to his participation in the marching band.
Gafford completed with a perfect 8 for 8 shooting, 7 rebounds, and 6 blocks against Minnesota in his first start for the Razorbacks. Against No. 14 Auburn, Gafford recorded 21 points, 10 rebounds, and seven blocks.
