Dejan Milojevic died on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, after suffering a heart attack. The 46-year-old fell ill at a private team dinner on Tuesday and was taken to a hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The Warriors–Utah Jazz game, set for 7 p.m. MT Wednesday at the Delta Center was postponed shortly after the team announced that Milojevic was hospitalized Tuesday night.

The Warriors said, “despite life-saving efforts”, Milojevic passed away late on Wednesday morning.

“We are absolutely devastated by Dejan Milojevic’s sudden passing,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr said in st atement issued by the team. “This is a shocking and tragic blow for everyone associated with the Warriors and an incredibly difficult time for his family, friends, and all of us who had the incredible pleasure to work with him”

Kerr said Milojevic was a relentlessly upbeat person “who brought joy” to others every day. “In addition to being a terrific basketball coach, Dejan was one of the most positive and beautiful human beings I have ever known, someone who brought joy and light to every single day with his passion and energy,” Kerr added.

“We grieve with and for his wife, Natasa, and their children, Nikola and Masa. Their loss is unfathomable”

Milojevic was born in Belgrade and was part of the Serbian international team for fourteen (14) years and became assistant coach of the national side in December 2019.

The former professional player joined Golden State in 2021 and was part of the coaching staff that led the Warriors to the NBA championship in 2022.

He also had a stint as head coach of KK Buducnost in the Adriatic League in Montenegro before his move to the United States with the Warriors three years ago.

Milojevic, also known as “Coach Decky” was tasked with working with Golden State’s centers and power forwards. He had been credited with the development of Warriors center, Kevon Looney.
