The Manager for Angel Educational Complex, a top private institution in Kumasi, Mr John Nsiah, has described school environments as more safer places than homes due to the level of adherence of Covid-19 safety protocols as directed by President Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo Addo.

In line with this, he said, government should turn deaf ears to the calls from teacher unions and some individuals, to shut down schools due to some positive cases recorded in some junior and Senior high schools in the country.

Mr Nsiah, made these known when Pastor Anthony Anyamesem-Poku, Suame Municipal Director of Education, visited the school to acquaint himself with the preparedness of students registered for this year’s WASSCE under the West African Examination Council (WAEC).

According to him, most students from Junior High and Senior High schools will be more exposed to the risk of being infected with the coronavirus at homes.

He said under the home environment, most parents because of their work schedules, have no time to ensure that their wards adhere to the safety protocols.

According to him, school authorities have laid down measures to force students to strictly follow the protocols to help prevent the spread of the pandemic.

He disclosed that students in both public and private schools were given face masks and sanitizers to help prevent them from such infections adding, in classrooms and compound , students are forced to wear masks and use the sanitisers frequently and appropriately.

“Let’s all tell the truth, how many children wear masks in their vicinities and how many parents ensure such children follow the safety protocols even by washing their hands with soap under running water” Mr Nsiah said.

Mr Nsiah commended government for providing masks, sanitisers, soaps and tissue papers to both private and public institutions

According to him, to ensure social distancing in schools, government should reintroduce a shift system in public schools to enhance strict adherence to the safty protocols.

This , he said, could motivate government to reopen all basic and Senior high school to help guarantee the safety of pupils and students in public schools.

On his part, Pastor Anyamesem-Poku was satisfied with the measures put in place by the school to help protect the students from being infected with the virus.

He commended the school for the strict adherence to the safety protocols as directed by the government.

Pastor Anyamesem-Poku, advised the students to aim at excelling in their examination, describing WASSCE as a determiner of both success and failure in life.

The Director was accompanied to the school by Mr Felix Kofi Serbeh, Head of Planning and Statistics, Rev Paul Akwasi Amankwah, Public Relations Officer, and Mr R. A. Asante, Municipal Training and Welfare Officer.
