The former president of the Republic of Ghana, H.E John Dramani Mahama has mournfully reacted to the assassination of the former Japan Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe.

Shinzo Abe who happens to be the longest-serving Prime Minister of Japan was reported to have been shot dead on Friday, 8th July 2022 while delivering a speech ahead of a parliamentary election.

A local media reported that a man armed with an homemade gun opened fire at him from behind while he was giving his speech. Shinzo was said to have collapsed and showed no sign of life while bleeding profusely after he was shot twice in the western city of Nara.

Police said that when the second shot was fired, Mr. Abe lost his balance while speaking in front of Kintetsu Railway’s Yamato-Saidaiji Station in advance of Sunday’s upper house election. According to the neighborhood police and emergency services, he was taken urgently to the Nara Medical University Hospital in Kashihara City but displayed no vital signs.

Before being transferred to the hospital, where his demise was confirmed, the former Japanese PM was in cardio-pulmonary arrest, according to the Nara City Fire Department.

In reaction to the tragic event, John Dramani Mahama in a series of tweets paid tribute to the former Japanese prime minister as he expresses his condolences to the country and the bereaved family as he calls on the Japanese government to wake up to the senseless crime.
