Former Asante Kotoko chairman Assad Maalah has been confirmed dead.

Maalah, who is believed to be in his late 80s died on Saturday after battling short illness.

He was the chairman when Kotoko last conquered Africa by winning the Caf Champions League in 1983.

It was the second time the Porcupine Warriors lifted the trophy after their 1978 triumph.

His contribution to the growth and development of Asante Kotoko as well as Ghana football has been hugely remarkable and his passing is certainly a blow to the football family.
