Gary Al-Smith has modestly admitted he had it all wrong on Aliou Cisse getting fired after AFCON 2021 had he not guided his team to the ultimate.

The seasoned Ghanaian journalist thus shared a screenshot of a prediction he made which he said he premised on prevailing facts and metrics relating to the Sengalese coach but eventually the man got his tactics right this time around and won the trophy.

He explained his posture better in the write as follows;

In my line of work, you will get trolled when you get a forecast wrong, like I have. This tweet didn’t age well. Part of the job is to air opinions based on convictions and facts available to me. I got a lot right this AFCON, and this is one of the things I got very wrong.

I genuinely felt Cissé had reached his ceiling after 7 years in charge. If he didn’t win, he’d have been axed/resigned – and people will be hailing my insight. Such is the job. 😃 In all seriousness, even though Senegal have won, my concerns about how they set up and how they play remain ahead of the World Cup, should they qualify.

If you watch them carefully, they don’t vary their style a lot. They are quite predictable. We can talk about that later. For now, let me take the trolling in good faith. Humble pie served, and I’ve eaten it coolly, no matter the context. 🙌🏿 [Feel free to tease, please. Let’s keep it civil, however]
